History

Founded for a Progressive America

Over the last decade, Americans have had greater access to progressive ideas, more exposure to our values, and a better connection to our leaders. As we work to build a more progressive America, emerging entities like MoveOn, Media Matters, Center for American Progress, Campaign for America’s Future, plus news outlets like the Huffington Post, Current TV, and MSNBC, have given progressive voices greater reach and added depth to the progressive infrastructure.

In 2009, the leadership of the Congressional Progressive Caucus and leaders of several progressive think tanks and organizations came together to take the movement another step forward. Progressive Congress was founded with a goal of building lasting infrastructure that bridges the gap between progressives in Congress and the rest of the progressive infrastructure nationwide.

Progressive Congress is the only organization of its kind, acting as a key inside-outside organizer and trusted partner for all facets of the progressive movement. Our mission is to build the progressive power that brings the progressive movement together to deliver results on the issues that matter to all Americans.
